Healing My Mother Original Canvas

"Healing My Mother" is a painting displaying the pain Ibarra had to endure growing up caused by a chaotic home life and upbringing. When her parents divorced at the age of 25, Ibarra felt she needed to pick up the pieces left behind while her mother mourned the separation of the family they all once grew up in. The following poem depicts the painting:

to the first home i knew inside the womb
to the woman who brought me to this earth
at the age of 1 you were the most important source of love i knew
at the age of 5 you were raising 2
when i turned 10 i felt i didn’t understand my home anymore
at 15 i was filled with anger towards you
at the age of 20 i grew a seed too
i finally understood the meaning of motherhood
and i thanked you for all you could do
i am now 25
i see you for all that you are 
i see the child in you
i wish i could turn back time to hug you
to tell you - you deserved to be loved
i am sorry for the tears you shed
i am sorry for the nights you’ve cried alone
you see
i now understand 
you were never given a home 
a space to feel safe
you are my source of life and with all that i can
i will help heal you
i will help those tears turn to rivers that nourish you
together we will grow
we will build a new home
with no pain or cries
with just love inside
you are the flower God gave me
i love you
